Guiding principles, statute of the association and Code of Conduct

The Dachverband Tanz Deutschland e.V. (Abbreviation DTD / "Dachverband" = umbrella organisation), formerly Ständige Konferenz Tanz, has been working as an official nationwide association for artistic dance in Germany since 2006.

Founded on the awareness of its participants that dance must speak with one voice in the German political landscape, Dachverband Tanz Deutschland e.V. currently operates as a network of the most important dance associations and institutions – regardless of any aesthetic differences, varying production methods and specific careers in dance.

The DTD develops position papers and concepts for the promotion of dance in Germany. It brings campaigns and initiatives into being and carries them out in its projects. Since 2016 the organisation has been involved in the nationwide funding programs TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund, Tanzland-Fonds for guest performance co-operations and creative transfer. Since 2018 the Dachverband Tanz has been the organizer of the German Dance Award.

The DTD has achieved a lot in recent years to strengthen the perception of dance through cultural policy at the federal, state and local levels. Dance support programs of the federal government have been strengthened, newly initiated and implemented by the DTD. The networking of the dance scene via various discussion formats and projects has become more intensive, formats and platforms for information and regular professional exchange have been developed. With the German Dance Award we can communicate the diversity of dance and the qualities of this art form nationwide. So far, the DTD has been most successful in promoting artistic dance, for independent dance professionals and for ensembles at municipal and state theaters.

Furthermore the DTD accompanies the dance scene in other fields of work: The DTD supports the five main German Dance Archives in its continous cooperation. Central questions of dance pedagogy are intensively discussed. The Association for Dance Science e.V. is supported by our office.

The office of the DTD is located in the Kunstquartier Bethanien in Berlin. Michael Freundt has been the director and project manager of the DTD (formerly Ständige Konferenz Tanz) since its foundation in March 2006. Sixteen employees* work full-time or part-time in the office.

The DTD is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (Department of Music and Performing Arts and Department of Cultural and Creative Industries), by the Federal Cultural Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and the City of Essen. We would like to thank our private supporters and our sponsors, especially Harlequin Floors Germany.

Cooperations: The TANZPAKT program is realized in cooperation with Diehl+Ritter gUG. The German Dance Prize is organized in cooperation with the Theater- und Philharmonie Essen GmbH. In the Creative Transfer program, we cooperate with the Federal Association of Free Performing Arts, the Federal Association of Contemporary Circus, the Federal Association of German Galleries and Art Dealers, the International Society of Fine Arts and Game - Association of the German Games Industry and transmissions GmbH. There is a permanent cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Tanzforschung e.V. (Society for Dance Research) in order to strengthen dance science. Furthermore, the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland is a cooperation partner of the Touring Artists project, together with the International Theater Institute and the International Society of Fine Arts. The Dachverband Tanz Deutschland is a member of the Allianz für die Freien Künste, the Aktionsbündnis Darstellende Künste and the Initiative für die Archive des Freien Theater e.V.

The Dachverband Tanz Deutschland e.V. is open for further members. It seeks close cooperation with national associations, institutions and lobbyists for the performing arts.
